school-b-02-02-13Nirbhaya’s sacrifice, that rocked the entire nation, seemingly went in vain as her own home district Ballia witnessed abduction and gang rape of a girl.

A 15-year-old local girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang raped by four persons in Bansdeeh area of Ballia district on April 20 night. But, the case was registered on April 22. However, showing promptness the police arrested all four accused by Tuesday.

According to reports, the family members of the girl had gone to watch a folk music function in the village on the fateful night. She was alone in the house. When she had gone out to call her mother four persons allegedly kidnapped her and took to a lonely place in a vehicle and later raped her. They also threatened her not to disclose their names. After returning home she attempted to end her life but was saved by family members.

On the complaint of family members the police lodged an FIR against four persons including Devendra Kumar, Shyam Lal, Manoj Kumar and Amresh Kumar on Monday afternoon. The Bansdeeh policeinspector told TOI over phone on Tuesday that one of the accused Manoj Kumar was arrested on Monday while three others were nabbed on Tuesday.

The DIG (Azamgarh range) Ram Kumar, when contacted to know about the reason behind the delay in lodging FIR in this connection, said that the police lodged the case immediately after receiving the complaint from family members. “No delay was made by police in lodging the case. In fact the matter was brought to police on Monday only, and the FIR was lodged immediately and manhunt was launched to nab the accused,” the DIG told TOI.

It may be recalled that Nirbhaya, who was gang raped and killed brutally in Delhi on December 16, 2012, belonged to Ballia district.
