Metea Valley has been named the 21st most challenging high school in Illinois in recently released rankings from the Washington Post.

Meanwhile, Neuqua Valley made the list at No. 36 and Waubonsie Valley was ranked at No. 58 on the list, which includes fewer than 10 percent of high schools nationally.

In Illinois only 65 high schools of the 682 public high schools and 146 non-public high schools in the state were named to the Washington Post’s list.

College Prep School of America in Lombard was ranked as the most challenging high school in Illinois.

The Washington Post list ranks schools through an index formula that uses the following ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated in May or June of that year.
