Jamshedpur : Engineering Student Beheads his Girlfriend

A horrifying crime has shaken the city of Jamshedpur after Bijendra Kumar, 23, an engineering diploma student, allegedly beheaded his girlfriend following what witnesses describe as an argument that turned violent with shocking speed.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was in a relationship with Kumar that had reportedly been troubled for several months. According to police, the two had met near the Jugsalai area when a confrontation escalated into an attack. Kumar is alleged to have used a sharp implement he had brought with him — a detail that investigators say indicates premeditation.
Kumar was apprehended at the scene and has been taken into custody. He is being held under charges of murder while investigators work to establish the full sequence of events and determine whether additional charges are warranted.
The case has prompted outrage in Jamshedpur and beyond, with community leaders and women's advocacy groups calling for a broader conversation about intimate partner violence and the conditions under which it escalates to lethal extremes. Several organizations have pointed to the lack of intervention mechanisms when couples in distress are identified by friends, family members, or institutions.
For authorities, the case raises difficult questions about patterns of behavior that precede such violence — and whether earlier intervention could have prevented the tragedy. For the victim's family, no answer to those questions will be adequate.
