Peace on Wagah - lower the leg !
India and Pakistan's aggressive border closing ceremony has been toned down after soldiers complained the high goose-stepping was wrecking their knee joints and causing foot injuries.
The move was agreed by Pakistani and Indian officers on either side of their Wagah border crossing between Amritsar and Lahore. The decision brings to an end — or at least softens — an institutionalised display of India-Pakistan hostility which drew thousands of nationalists and tourists every day. The ceremony featured Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force troops in full dress uniform marching up to their rivals on the border line in exaggerated goose-steps while shouting loudly.
