Reese Witherspoon to receive MTV Generation Award

Reese Witherspoon should clear some space on the trophy shelf. MTV has named the 35-year-old Oscar winner as this year's recipient of its Generation Award, to be presented at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards.

The award honors performers who have delighted MTV audiences across a career, and Witherspoon qualifies on range alone — from the steel-magnolia comedy of Legally Blonde to the Oscar-winning turn as June Carter in Walk the Line. She joins a past-winners list that includes Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, and Jim Carrey.

Sunday's ceremony, hosted by Saturday Night Live's Jason Sudeikis at the Gibson Amphitheatre, will feature presenters including Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf, Patrick Dempsey, Cameron Diaz, Selena Gomez, and Nicki Minaj. Fans voted online for categories like best kiss, best villain, and best line from a movie — and Twilight devotees get a first look at footage from Breaking Dawn, Part 1.
