Theroux, the actor and screenwriter, proposed on Friday night — his 41st birthday — during an intimate dinner in New York City, and Aniston said yes. The couple's representatives confirmed the news over the weekend, with Theroux's rep announcing: "Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage."

The pair met on the set of the 2012 comedy Wanderlust and had been dating for about a year and a half. Aniston had been filming her latest movie in North Carolina in the weeks before the proposal.

For Aniston, 43, it would be her second marriage, following her 2005 divorce from Brad Pitt. For Theroux, it would be his first.

No wedding date was announced — but Hollywood had its engagement story of the summer.
