Indian-Americans from California raised $75000 to build an eye hospital in Bihar.
Indian-Americans raised $75,000 at a recent fundraiser in California to build a state-of-the-art 200-bed super specialty eye hospital in Bihar, per a PTI report.
The Shankara Eye Foundation and the Bihar Foundation USA have pledged to raise $4 million toward the initial capital cost of the project, which aims to conduct 25,000 free surgeries every year — benefiting more than one lakh people of Bihar annually, said Rai Rajiv Kumar Sinha, vice chairman of the Bihar Foundation USA.
The fundraiser was held in the last week of June at Cupertino Community Hall in the San Francisco Bay Area, as part of the Bihar Foundation's annual function, attended by prominent Bihari-Americans. Dr. Jayant Kumar, the foundation's project officer, announced the $75,000 donation on behalf of the project core committee as the first foundational step toward the project's success.
