All-day camps where your kids can become an engineer, coder, writer, or doctor.

Locations:

• Metea Valley High School, 1801 N Eola Rd, Aurora, IL

Note: In July, camps were offered only at Metea Valley.

Daily schedule (Monday–Thursday, 8 AM–6 PM):

• 8:00–9:00 AM: Drop-off
• 9:15 AM–12:15 PM: Morning instruction
• 12:15–1:15 PM: Lunch
• 1:15–4:30 PM: Evening instruction
• 4:30–6:00 PM: Free play and pickup

Food: Children brought two snacks, lunch, and a water bottle. Food was not provided.

Registration deadline: May 30, 2018 (via the organizer's website; registration was complete only when payment was processed)

1. Country Fair: Concept, Build, Code, Explore

Build a whole country fair using LEGO WeDo 2.0, exploring the physics, mechanics, and engineering behind the rides. Kids think like engineers, build models of real-world mechanics, and apply their knowledge with new designs. Teamwork, science, and the joy of learning.

2. Engineering for Kids

Design and build a hybrid car-boat that drives both in water and on land — learning electric circuits, density, mass, equilibrium, buoyancy, motion, speed, and force. Teams raced their boats to see which designs performed best.

3. Make a Bot

Build robots from scratch — mechanical and electronic parts — and code them to follow lines, avoid obstacles with sensors, solve mazes, and compete in robot soccer. Students followed the software development life cycle: requirements, design, coding, testing, and debugging.

4. Adventures in Robotics

Explore robotics and engineering with the LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 base set and drag-and-drop programming software. Work in teams and tackle previous years' FIRST LEGO League challenges.

5. Merging Hardware and Software: Build a Laptop, Learn Python

Learn the components of a laptop, build one, boot it with a Linux-based operating system, and learn to code in Python — seeing how engineering, hardware, and software merge into a working computer.

6. Micro Life on Earth and STEM

Explore the tiny world invisible to the naked eye — atoms, molecules, circuits, cells — through hands-on experiments: culturing bacteria, how plants control growth, Newton's laws of motion in real life, and the chemistry of matter and its changes.

7. Reading, Writing, Leadership, and Debate

A week of reading, writing, and communication: vocabulary building, comprehension strategies, good-writing basics, presentation skills, and debate. Skills for school and social life.

8. Doctor in Training

For kids interested in medical sciences: human anatomy, the skeletal system, the nervous system, the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch), and how the heart and stomach function. Hands-on activities included taking pulses, examining noses and ears, reading x-rays, a sheep-heart dissection, and a project to design and engineer an artificial heart.
