Met Gala 2026: Fashion Is Art — What to Expect on Fashion's Biggest Night
The most anticipated night in fashion has a theme — and it's one that leaves almost no creative limit.
The 2026 Met Gala, set for May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will center on the exhibition Costume Art, with a dress code of "Fashion Is Art." Co-chairs this year are Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, joining the ever-present Anna Wintour.
The theme explained
The exhibition, running May 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, will display nearly 200 garments and accessories exploring the relationship between the dressed body and art history, according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's divided into three categories: the nude body in art, overlooked body types (pregnant, aging), and the universal anatomical body.
The dress code deliberately invites interpretation. The body as canvas. Designers as artists. Guests could draw from Renaissance paintings, Art Deco geometry, Surrealism, Afro-futurism, or entirely original movements — and all of it fits.
