Another 15-year-old girl raped
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five youths in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, in April 2013.
According to police, the girl was with a friend on April 18 when the group intercepted them. The friend was chased away, and the girl was allegedly assaulted by the five men, who then fled.
The girl's family lodged a complaint at the Sikandarpur police station. Police identified the accused as Vipin Singh, Pankaj Singh, Brijesh Singh, Sandeep Singh and Amit Singh, and said three of them had been detained while a search was on for the others.
The case was one of several reported in Uttar Pradesh that month, amid a national debate over women's safety following the December 2012 Delhi gang rape.
