Costliest coffee at Starbucks has 48 shots of espresso
The Quadriginoctuple Frap
A Washington state man put a lot of planning into his cup of coffee — and walked out with a record. Behold: the Quadriginoctuple Frap.
Beau Chevassus of Enumclaw, Washington, rolled up to his local Starbucks with his own 52-ounce mug and a mission: to smash the record for the most expensive Starbucks drink, which stood at $23.60. His order — a venti mocha Frappuccino with 40 shots of espresso, soy mocha drizzle, matcha powder, protein powder, caramel brûlée topping, strawberries, two bananas, caramel drizzle, Frappuccino chips, and vanilla bean — rang up at $47.30. The baristas added eight more shots for good measure, bringing the total to 48.
Chevassus, a former barista himself, had done his homework: he couldn't find any combination above $23 in his research, brought a dozen doughnuts for the crew, and got the manager's permission in advance. And because he placed the order on his birthday, Starbucks' free birthday drink perk meant the $47.30 monster cost him exactly $0.
The previous record holder, Logan McCall, had managed $23.60 with a 16-shot Trenta concoction. Chevassus more than doubled it. (The record would fall again in 2014, when a Dallas man ordered a $54.75, 60-shot behemoth.)
